The Second Wave of China Outbreak Devasted India

The second wave of COVID-19 pandemic has a devastating impact on India. The government was not prepared for the second wave, which infected millions of people and takes thousands of lives every day. Apocalyptic Lack of oxygen cylinder second wave of COVID-19 in India leaves families hunting for oxygen and non-availability of vaccines dealt a telling blow to the life of normal people. The medical infrastructure is completely incapable to handle the catastrophic situation. To date, only 10% of the total population were vaccinated Vaccine production failed to match with increasing demand which dented the country's reputation as a medical hub of the world. The government failed to chalk out a contingency plan to overcome the catastrophic situation. Lakhs of infected people throng outside the hospitals, which do not have enough beds for covid patients. The question remains unanswered is what causes a second wave of COVID-19?

The country was coming out of the deadly trap of the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic  at the initial stage of 2021. The number of covid infected people were ceased to exist during that period and the same thing can be applied for death due to COVID-19. The Indian government started vaccine diplomacy and sends cartoon of covid vaccine to neighbouring and low-income countries. That was recalled as India's Covid diplomacy. The developed countries like the UK, Canada also received consignments of the covid vaccine. The economy was on the path to recovery. The blitzkrieg of COVID-19 in form of a second wave shadowed those shiny pictures. The sudden eruption was started from Maharastra, spread to Delhi and other parts of the country. Central and state government simultaneously failed to stop the unbridled spread of the fatal coronavirus. The mayhem of COVID-19  shakes the economy and normal life of common people. The FDI which earlier predicted a GDP growth of 12.5% for the economic year of 2021-22, later reduces the reduce the growth rate to 10.5% for the same financial year. The COVID-19 increased its fief during February of the year. Multiple reasons played their part in the sudden hike of covid infection. The election commission declared a schedule of election for five states and did not ban any kind of campaign or any kind of rules regulation during the campaign. Unbridled political campaigns work as a super spreader. The BCCI also played their parts to boost the momentum of the spread of COVID-19  infections. The test cricket between UK and India which was played in Ahmedabad, attended by 1,30000 spectators worsen the situation. Nobody pays any heed to keep a safe distance, mask the face. The religious congregations of Kumbh, Ramadin put the last nail on the coffin. The COVID-19 pandemic now took a catastrophic shape. The second wave of COVID-19 was more devastating comparing the first wave. The most enigmatic thing is that the central government did not impose any lockdown unlike the year back when the first wave of COVID-19 was broken out. The government did not impose any lockdown to avoid any economic slowdown when the country's economy was already in a disastrous slump. A couple of states clamped partial lockdown to reduce the severe impact of COVID-19. The situation became worsened during April-May as witnessed 400,000 daily infections and thousands of death every passing day.Second wave of COVID-19 in India reached to the peak poind during first week of May. Both central and state government stood in genuflect pose in front of COVID-19 might. The situation was worsened so much, that moment it appears that the whole country living in the castle of death. The ensuing mayhem took away the life of a couple of famous personalities. The country once helped other poor nation with the covid vaccine, now impose the ban on the export of covid vaccine and started to import duty-free vaccine to cripple the impact of the second wave of COVID-19. Now India started to import oxygen from the outside world to root out the scarcity of oxygen. Both government and people throw the guard into dusty recess, which enhances the spread of COVID-19.

The earlier triumphant over COVID-19 pandemic turned into a dying gnaw. As per the latest available data, the country has 19.7 million new cases of COVID-19 and the death count already surpassed 23,0000. This has a devastating impact on the already burdened healthcare facility. Medical scientists were awestruck by the sudden spread of coronavirus and tried to scale the potential of B.1.167 variants, which is prevalent in India. This variant of COVID-19  also found among people of the UK who are yet to be vaccinated. Whether the variant is more severe than SARS-Cov-2, which trampled the whole world, is a gargantuan question, which remains unanswered. According to some epidemiologists, B.1.617 is less severe than other variants like B.1.117, B.1.1.7, B.1.351 and P1.

Economic Impact of Second Wave of COVID-19

The impact of the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic on the economy was huge. For the first time post-independence country experience negative GDP growth, which dealt a telling blow to the future of the country. India started to recover from the economic impact of COVID-19 pandemic  during the first quarter of 2021. The second wave of COVID-19 pandemic dented the effort of economic resurgence. Although the impact was not as severe as in the previous year. The main reason behind the slowdown of economic growth in the current year is the imposition of lockdown by the various state to arrest the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. This leads to the sudden hike in unemployment and increases the volume of poor people which was in a downward spiral during the financial year of 2018-19. Lockdown has a huge impact on the poor, living below the poverty line and daily wage earner. The government must propel the pace of vaccination, which is the only way to recover the economy current deep gulf. The vaccine produced by Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech failed to match the current need. Many economists expressed their calculated opinion that this discrepancy will exist till July. The country needs to vaccinate 510 million people to stop the fatal impact of the second wave of COVID-19. Vaccination and herd immunity will create a dyke against the fatal virus. To recover the economy pandemic from the current doldrum, the COVID-19 virus  must be defanged. The positive aspect is that movement of goods in intrastate and the interstate level was not stopped and various industries running smoothly. For some economists, the impact of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic may not be trivial, but should not be long lasting. Government must contain inflation which is the natural outcome of COVID-19 catastrophe and potent enough to upset the economic growth.
